Last updated: October 2026. Version 2026.10.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Sheep & Shepherd LLC, doing business as Vitanis ("Vitanis," "we," "us," or "our"). They apply when you use the Vitanis app and website. By creating an account or using Vitanis, you agree to these Terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information.
The short version
- What you write is yours. We use it only to run Vitanis for you and the people you choose to share with.
- Treat people well. Your organization's standards and the Circle Way apply to how you treat others here.
- Vitanis is not therapy or an emergency service. In a crisis, call 911 or call or text 988.
- Your rights stay yours. Nothing here limits your rights under law.
1. Who can use Vitanis
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Most people use Vitanis through an organization, such as an employer or faith community, that has an agreement with us. You may use Vitanis only if your organization has invited you or we have otherwise given you access.
- Use your real name and accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us right away at privacy@vitanis.co if you think someone else has used your account. One account per person.
2. Your organization's role
Your organization chooses to offer Vitanis and may choose certain settings. Its own policies, including the standards you acknowledge in Shared Commitments, apply to how you treat others in Vitanis. Your organization's agreement with us governs the business relationship between Vitanis and your organization. If your organization's access ends, your access may end too.
3. Your content
You own what you create in Vitanis, including journal entries, reflections, posts, and messages ("your content").
You give Vitanis a limited permission to store, process, and display your content only to run Vitanis for you and for the people you choose to share it with. This includes processing by our service providers and AI features as described in our Privacy Policy. This permission ends when your content is deleted, except for the limited time needed to complete deletion or meet a legal obligation.
When you share content with your Circle, your Community, or your organization, those people can see it. We ask everyone to treat what others share with care, but we cannot control what another person does with something they have seen.
Only share content you have the right to share, and do not share someone else's personal story without their permission.
4. How we expect everyone to act
Vitanis is built on trust. When you use it, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, bully, demean, or discriminate against anyone.
- Pretend to be someone else, or use another person's account.
- Share anything unlawful, or anything that belongs to someone else that you do not have the right to share.
- Share another person's private information or personal story without their permission.
- Try to access information you are not allowed to see, get around privacy protections, or figure out who is behind combined results.
- Interfere with Vitanis, including by hacking, scraping, overloading, copying, or reverse engineering it.
- Use Vitanis for advertising, selling, or recruiting anyone into another business.
Organization administrators also agree not to ask members to reveal their private content, and not to use anything in Vitanis to evaluate an individual's performance.
Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under law, including talking about your pay or working conditions, or reporting a concern to your organization or a government agency.
5. The AI coach and other AI features
Some features use artificial intelligence. The AI coach is an AI, not a person. AI responses can be inaccurate or incomplete, and they are not professional, medical, legal, or financial advice. You decide what to do with anything an AI feature suggests.
6. Vitanis is not a clinical or emergency service
Vitanis supports personal growth and connection. It does not diagnose or treat anything, it is not therapy or counseling, and no one monitors what you write. If you are in crisis or worried about someone else, call 911, or in the United States call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
7. People invited to respond to Essence
If a member invites you to respond to an Essence request, these Terms and our Privacy Policy apply to your response. Your response goes privately to the member who invited you. Please keep it kind and honest, and do not include anyone else's private information.
8. Our property
Vitanis, including its design, software, Practices, and written content, belongs to Sheep & Shepherd LLC. Your content belongs to you, and documents your organization uploads belong to your organization. We give you a personal, limited permission to use Vitanis for its intended purpose while you have access. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.
9. Changes to Vitanis and these Terms
Vitanis will keep growing, and features may change. If we make a material change to these Terms, we will tell you in the app and ask you to review and accept the new version before you continue.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using Vitanis at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing privacy@vitanis.co. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, or if needed to protect others, and when your organization's agreement with us ends. What happens to your information afterward is described in our Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimers
We work hard to make Vitanis helpful and reliable, but to the extent the law allows, Vitanis is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We do not promise particular results, or that Vitanis will always be available or free of errors.
12. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, Vitanis is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of Vitanis. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
13. Resolving disputes
If you have a concern, please contact us first at privacy@vitanis.co so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and you and Vitanis agree to those courts' jurisdiction.
14. General
These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Vitanis about your use of Vitanis. If any part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a part of these Terms right away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later. We may transfer these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We may send you notices in the app or by email.
